Over R240 000 has been raised for the kind petrol attendant who paid for fuel to make sure a woman got home safely!

Cape Town, South Africa – Nkhosikho Mbele, the petrol attendant who assisted Monet van Deventer with R100 for petrol is set to get a massive donation thanks to many South Africans who were moved by his act of kindness!

On Thursday the 30 May 2019 Monet stopped at a petrol service station to fill up her car. As she pulled up to the pump, she got a feeling that she had left her card at home.

“While I was looking for my card, a conscientious young man began to clean my windows. After the search, I told him I couldn’t find my card and unfortunately wouldn’t be able to pay for petrol.”

What happened next has gone viral, inspired the nation and galvanised South Africans to dig deep and give back to the kind gentleman!

He said to me: “You can’t run out of petrol on the N2. I’ll give you R100, and then you can just bring back my R100 whenever you’re here again.”

Without even being able to answer, he started to fill my car with R100 petrol, and he paid with his own card.”

He didn’t ask for her name or her number – he just said that she had to drive safely.

“When I returned later to give him the money, I asked him what made him help me and how could he trust that I would return the money?

He answered me by saying: “Ma’am I am a believer!”

Monet was so moved by how South Africans reacted to the story that she decided to start a crowdfund to thank Nkosikho for restoring South Africa’s faith in humanity and has managed to raise over R240 000 in just 24 hours!

“Since Nkosikho saved my life, I would love to do something in return for him. His two children, mom and brother, live with him in Khayelitsha and he will really benefit from any donations.”

“Nkosikho can inspire others to also make a difference by being friendly and polite to others. He will also be able to help his family and start doing charity work in his environment.”

This is the real South Africa, and it’s stories like these that remind us of who we really are!
