Raziel, a young boy on the autism spectrum, has found a loyal and loving companion in Nala. Nala, a specially trained black labrador by the South Africa Guide Dog Association (SAGDA), will provide Raziel with much-needed emotional support, protection, and assistance in navigating social situations.
Johannesburg, South Africa (11 November 2024) – One special little boy recently got matched with his new furry companion, an autism support dog named Nala.
Raziel Hoffman, who is on the autism spectrum, recently graduated from the South African Guide Dog Association’s (SAGDA) dog and owner matching process alongside Nala.
Raziel, a fan of Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario and Luigi, and Where’s Wally, loves spending time playing board games and snacking on Doritos. Now, he’ll have a new best friend to share these hobbies with, Nala.
Nala, a beautiful black labrador, will not only provide companionship but also offer essential emotional support, and protection helping Raziel navigate life with greater confidence and ease.
According to SAGDA, the primary role of these specially selected dogs is to help with the tendency of children with autism to run away when they are distracted. This service is for children aged between five and 12 who have been diagnosed with autism by a qualified medical practitioner.
“Thank you to everyone who played a part in Nala’s journey – from the puppy raisers to the trainers, and to the donors who generously support us.
“Because of you, Raziel now has a companion who understands and supports him, opening up new possibilities and enriching his life in countless ways,” the organisation said.
Talk about a paw-some partnership! With Nala by his side, Raziel now has a friend who understands him and will help him thrive!
