Caring volunteers of the Robin Hood Foundation spent precious time with 80 new mothers at Victoria Mxenge Hospital, offering comfort and support and gifting them with thoughtfully packed bags filled with essentials and beautifully knitted items.

Durban, South Africa (27 February 2025) – There’s nothing quite like waking up to a friendly face or being in the presence of someone who genuinely cares to know how you’re doing at your most vulnerable moment.

The new moms at the Victoria Mxenge Hospital got to experience just that when volunteers of the Robin Hood Foundation took some time out of their day to spread some love at the maternity wards.

In addition to spending quality time with the 80 new moms, the volunteers came bearing thoughtfully prepared bags filled with toiletries, donated baby clothing, blankets, toys, and exquisitely knitted items crafted by talented knitters from Durban and as far away as the United Kingdom.

“Our recent visit to Victoria Mxenge Hospital was a testament to the profound impact of collective compassion.

“The joy and gratitude expressed by these mothers, some of whom had nothing to dress their newborns in, were deeply moving,” Robin Hood Foundation said.

The team’s outreach extended to the children’s ward, too, where they distributed bags containing colouring books, crayons, children’s books, and toys! Handmade dolls and dresses crafted by dedicated supporters brought special joy to the young girls.

Needless to say, the children were over the moon upon receiving their gifts and treats, especially those who have endured extended hospital stays – some up to a year.

During the visit, the Foundation was moved by the dedication of the staff, who not only accommodated them but also ensured that all patients were well taken care of.

“We often hear about the negativity and challenges within our healthcare facilities, such as understaffing and aging infrastructure. We are humbled by the unwavering dedication, love and care of the hospital staff – it’s truly inspiring.

“From the security personnel at the gate to the nurses, administrative staff, matrons, and doctors, each individual demonstrates a profound commitment to patient care, Robin Hood Foundation commented on what proved to be a day to remember!
