Laerskool Bastion Primary School honoured one of their own, Ruben Horn, after his family moved to the United States and he successfully earned a spot on the American football team.
South Africa (27 October 2023) – Moving is a big deal and moving countries, is even more so! For young Ruben Horn, moving to America was huge! But since moving in March of 2022, he has managed to find his footing and his old primary school in South Africa is celebrating his success; showing that you can leave home, but home will always celebrate for you!
Laerskool Bastion Primary in Brackenfell sent some cheer Ruben’s way when they learned he had landed a prominent role on his new school’s football team.
Moving to America meant trading in Rugby for Football. The sports may be vastly different but the discipline and commitment easily transfer between the two, as Ruben learned when he picked up a football for the first time.
Ruben’s old school, Laerskool Bastion Primary, shared a very happy update about his sporting progress and wished him luck on his journey as he continues to settle in, in his new country.
Ruben Horn and his family immigrated to America in March last year from Brackenfell. He was a rugby player at Bastion Primary from Gr 1 to Gr 7, where he received the best training, not knowing he would need it in his future.
He was introduced to American Football at his school. He ended up in a position in the Yukon Middle School.
The coaches can’t believe what a little machine they have got in the team, thanks to the brilliant rugby foundation he received at Bastion. He was chosen to play for the Varsity team (the A team in his grade). His position is outside linebacker.
“Thank you, Bastion and coaches for my foundation.”
From rugby star to future NFL player. – Bastion Primary
There are many South Africans living abroad and we love celebrating their successes. It is hard to leave home but always know, that if you do, home will always be here for you!
