A grocery delivery driver put his demanding schedule on hold to help a poor pony that he’d noticed in distress while on his route. Instead of driving past, he stopped, caught the pony and delivered it back to its family – an act of true compassion that has brought joy to a family he’s never met.
Randjesfontein, South Africa (10 November 2025) – On Friday morning, a Woolworths Dash driver was stopped in his tracks while driving through Randjesfontein – not by traffic or a passerby, but by a pony that appeared stranded and in need of help.
Instead of simply driving past, he made a quick stop to catch it and remove it from the busy street.
“We just had to share this heartwarming story! Unfortunately, our hero “dashed” off once help arrived, so we didn’t get his name — but we want to commend him for his kindness and compassion,” SPCA Midrand shared in a Facebook post.
Woolworths later picked up on the post and let everyone know that his name is Godwill. An incredibly fitting name for a man filled with so much kindness.
Godwill’s small act beautifully illustrated that there are so many caring hearts out there.
The SPCA confirmed that the pony was returned safely back to its home – a welcome relief for Judy Smit, who, on the same post, expressed her gratitude to the wonderful driver who saved her daughter’s pony, which unexpectedly got frightened while riding in the neighbourhood that morning.
“My two daughters were on their ponies, and I was with them on our way to work them in a neighbour’s arena. Unfortunately, this pony spooked and gave a few huge bucks. Both children fell off, and the ponies ran off. It was a total freak accident. I got quite hurt, but the girls are thankfully ok. Thankful to the wonderful kind-hearted people who helped us catch the ponies and make sure all are ok,” Judy shared.
We wish Judy a speedy recovery as she heals from the unsettling ordeal and join the many South Africans in celebrating this driver’s quick thinking and true act of compassion, which not only saved an animal in distress but has brought much relief to a family he’s likely never even met.
Kudos to you, Godwill, a truly good man!
