Born in a rural South Africa with limited opportunities, Jozay defied the odds and pursued her culinary dreams. With the support of the Masinyusane Development Organization, Jozay gained access to a professional chef programme and is thriving in Dubai’s Hilton Hotel kitchens!
Dubai, United Arab Emirates (10 January 2025) – It’s always so uplifting to hear stories of people who refused to give up on their dreams despite humble or difficult backgrounds, where chances of succeeding are a rare occurrence.
Hailing from rural South Africa, Jozay is one of those relentless young people who, despite coming from an underserved community where opportunities are scarce, never gave up on her culinary dreams.
Although she lacked the means to study and subsequently earn a formal chef qualification, Jozay found support from the Masinyusane Development Organization, a charity dedicated to not only empowering youth but helping them thrive in various ways, too.
With the help of one of Masinyusane’s scholarship partners, TWFCT, she enrolled in a professional chef programme. There, she excelled in all her studies and earned the credentials needed to work anywhere in the world.
“Over the past decade, our scholarship graduates have made life-changing strides, using their education to uplift themselves and their families out of poverty. Many are now securing stable careers, buying homes, and lifting their families out of poverty,” Masinyusane shares.
Today, Jozay is now living out those dreams that once seemed far from reach – but certainly worth the fighting chance – cooking and serving gourmet meals at the prestigious Hilton Hotel in Dubai!
