Determined to follow his dreams, Lumko Dyantyi made his very own drum kit using paint buckets and garden tools so his aunt set up a crowdfund to buy him a real set.
Eastern Cape, South Africa (21 October 2020) – In the little village of Mthatha, far removed from live concerts and music shows, lives 14-year-old Lumko Dyantyi who built himself a drum kit using buckets and garden tools.
Lumko dreams of playing the drums one day but his first and most important goal is to have a real drum set that is all his own.
His aunt, Asisipho Dyantyi was home for a visit and she saw his passion first hand. She spent many hours watching him play and answered as many of his questions as she could. After looking online, they learned that a new drum set would cost more than they could afford.
Asisipho encouraged Lumko to have faith and decided to start a crowdfund to help raise the money needed to inspire his dreams and make them a reality.
“I recently went to visit him, he has this little shack where he practices his drumming, he has such a passion for it. He was asking me all these questions about drumming and how much would a full set cost. He learned how to play in church and he says he wants to become a famous drummer.”
“Reaching my target would mean a lot to my nephew, because he would be one step closer to his dream.
Funds raised will be used to purchase drums for my nephew.
The drums cost about R9 800
R200 will be used for delivery costs. The total amount will be R10 000″ – Asisipho Dyantyi
