This year, Santa Shoebox Project delivered 63,099 gift boxes to children from around South Africa, and they thank everyone that contributed in 2021.

South Africa (02 December 2021) – The Santa Shoebox Project closed off its 16th year with over 63,000 bright smiles. The Project exceeded 1 million Shoeboxes in 2020 and was set to go beyond the million in 2021.

2021’s #beyondthemillion saw the Project include some significant community work in its activities, largely via the SSB Legacy. The very first project was a creche in Ceres.

The team shared that they saw a rise in generosity in 2021. The boxes that arrived at the drop-off zones were filled with love.

Aside from the boxes pledged by the public, a total of 6,777 virtual boxes were pledged online and distributed on behalf of people who were not able to make a physical box.

The Santa Shoebox Project was started in 2006 as a way for people to provide gifts to children who often go without during the festive season. The first roll-out saw just 180 gift boxes distributed to children in need. In 2020, that number crossed the 1 million mark.

To date, 1,077,289 children have been gifted Santa Shoeboxes!

If you contributed to this awesome cause, be sure to follow the Facebook page, as photos of children receiving their boxes will be shared there. It is always heartwarming to see the excitement and joy on their faces.
