South Africa (07 October 2024) — In just over a month, the Santa Shoebox Project has already hit 61% of its pledge target, meaning that over 50,000 children will be receiving boxes of joy this festive season!

What Are Santa Shoebox Pledges?

The Santa Shoebox Project is all about ensuring that underprivileged children in our country get to enjoy the cheer of the festive season, and they’ve been doing an incredible job of this over nearly two decades. However, in order to fulfil this big wish, they call on Santa’s helpers (pledge-makers) who commit to filling and decorating a Santa Shoebox for a child who otherwise likely wouldn’t receive any gift. Alternatively, some pledge-makers opt for virtual boxes where the Santa Shoebox team handles the packing and decorating.

Santa Shoeboxes work in a similar fashion to the practice of practical festive gift-giving. Essential surprises like toiletries and clothes are gifted, and each box is specific to the needs of a child at a certain age.

Individual pledges opened up on 1 September, signalling the start of festive season preparations for the Santa Shoebox Team. Because packing and delivering gifts to thousands of children all over the country is no last-minute assignment, the festive season starts a little earlier for the organisation and its friends. As such, the earlier Santa Shoeboxes are pledged, the merrier.

Get Pledging!

Although festive is off to a fabulous start, around 40% of pledges still need to be met. So, whether you’re ready to transition away from a Scrooge era, simply love the idea of making magic happen for someone who’ll never forget it, or is a longtime friend of the Santa Shoebox Project, this is your sign to pledge and be a part of the true spirit of the festive season.
