It took just 6 months for Sean Williams and his team to collect and recycle over 50,000 bags of trash to celebrate his 50th birthday!!!

Johannesburg, South Africa (11 May 2021) – A local Joburger set himself a goal to collect – and recycle – 50,000 bags of trash before his 50th birthday and exactly one day before his big day… he did it!

“We did it. This is one of the most special days of my life. I can’t tell you how special this is for me and the Live Life Always team. I set out to reach these goals, and we did it due to belief and the absolute love and kindness from so many amazing people I don’t even know. Without you all, I couldn’t have done this. A huge thank you! I am totally overwhelmed, and just thank the heavens above and Mother Earth for inspiring me and showing me faith. Much love and peace to everyone, and I love you all so much.”

Sean Williams sits down with Good Things Guy to chat about his clean-up journey… and what’s next for him and the team.

Listen to the full interview here:

The story behind Sean Williams and his incredible clean-up initiative started with Lovemore Robson is also one of friendship, determination and good things – the environmentalists have become heroes in the north of Johannesburg as the team leading a clean-up revolution while saving our environment, one piece of trash at a time!

The two friends have been working hard to clean up their community and spend their days on the streets of Joburg picking up trash from every drain pipe, riverbed, gutters and even the roads themselves. They have even created an amazing new landmark – the Lonehill Ecobrick bench – but it’s the amount of trash that they have collected that has everyone talking! In just 6 short months, the clean-up initiative has collected over 360,000kg of trash!

Williams met Robson when he was a hawker at Builders Warehouse in Northriding, trying to find day work.

“Lovemore lived on the floor in a room with his friend and had nothing. Now he lives with me in Lonehill, got his drivers license and able to have a roof over his head, food in his belly and just a happy soul.”

Together, the two environmentalists have started a clean-up business – Live Life Always (LLA) – that employs over 20 Diepsloot residents who help keep the entire Fourways, Jukskei River and surrounds clean.

“We are passionate about Mother Earth and see and feel her pain in what humans are doing to her each day due to greed, and people have lost all their morals and respect. We want to clean up this planet so that our children can swim in the rivers, lakes and ocean and not be surrounded by litter.

If we don’t do something now, there will be very little hope for future generations on Earth.”

And in just 6 short months, the team have collected and recycled over 360,000kg of trash that was just lying around. At the same time, this supports their families and changes people’s mindset towards the huge problem of waste plastic and litter.

“By picking up litter, I am connecting with Mother Earth, and through that, my soul grows. I will clean up this planet one bag at a time.”

The initiative operates on donations to sustain itself and requires ongoing funding of R25,000 per week to continue.

“I really would love to get sponsorships soonest. We have enough money to carry on for 4 more days, and then these poor residents of Diepsloot will go home hungry again. I want to grow this initiative so we can employ, educate and clean up.

Donations are needed urgently please as without this initiative I have very left to live for, to be honest.”

They have set up a crowdfunding page for the community to donate to keep the initiative going! Click here if you can assist!
