Little Gomolemo is a courageous seven-year-old girl who has carried the weight of a fire that nearly consumed her world. After two very difficult years, she now looks forward to receiving a life-changing surgery that promises to alleviate her pain and bring a smile back to her face.

Kimberley, South Africa (05 December 2024) – Smile Week kicked off this week at Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Hospital and will see several children receive surgeries that will bring hope, health, and a lifetime of smiles.

By partnering with hospitals and medical professionals, the foundation has been working tirelessly to provide critical surgeries to children who have suffered severe burn injuries and craniofacial complications, as well as offer support to their affected families.

One patient looking forward to healing and happier days is Gomolemo, a brave 7-year-old from Kuruman in the Northern Cape. This precious soul has faced unimaginable challenges after suffering severe burns in a devastating shack fire two years ago.

According to Smile Foundation, her arms, hands, upper body, and legs were deeply affected, and she’s spent nearly a year at Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Hospital receiving vital treatment and care. Yet, amidst the pain and suffering, a glimmer of hope has emerged.

“This Smile Week, we’re honoured to be part of Gomolemo’s journey where she will be receiving her much-needed surgery sponsored by ACSA. Together, we’re making a difference, one smile at a time,” Smile Foundation said.

This little girl is one of many who will be on the receiving end of the power of a smile and the hope it brings. Her courage in the face of adversity is truly inspiring, and we’re so thrilled that a new chapter unfolds for her.
