A morning commuter spotted a beautiful moment between a white man and a black woman proving that despite some racial tensions, the rainbow nation is still alive!

South Africa has been bubbling with racism recently. Since the Vicki Momberg story broke, the public has either rejoiced or scorned the judgement. Thus bringing on more racially charged tension. We also noted the mixed feelings in the comments on our posts remembering Winne Mandela.

At times we feel saddened by the mood of the country, we feel the tension and can see the sheer frustration of South Africans. But the one thing we know to be true is that most people just don’t care what colour their neighbours are, they have no problem with hearing different languages or experiencing the melting pot of culture in SA.

In times of trouble, we should always rejoice the small victories. That is exactly what Rela Venter did in the Sandton traffic this morning on her way to work.

While stuck in the usual mayhem that is Sandton Traffic, she came across a truly South African moment that she felt needed to be celebrated. We couldn’t agree more!

“I came across the nicest scene this morning (06/04/2018) on Sandton drive. An older black lady had a flat and a white guy driving a rather fancy Mercedes SUV was on his knees changing her tyre for her. The best part was obviously the great conversation the two of them were having. Big smiles all around.”

“THIS is my South Africa!!!”

“I’m still smiling over it and wish I had managed to get a photo of the two of them smiling.” – Rela Venter

So if you ever find yourself feeling drowned out by the racial noise, remember that somewhere there is someone doing something truly South African. We promise to always help you see the good!
