Jeeten Fakir shared an inspiring story about a man from Soweto that has followed his dreams and made a good life. Meet Alfred, the street sign painter.
Alfred has been working hard for the last 16 years to grow his small business and build a home for his family. He has achieved both these goals thanks to people like Jeeten Fakir.
No job is too small for Alfred, maybe this is what sets him apart. His trade is painting, with a focus on residential numbering and road signs. He paints light reflective numbers on peoples driveways to help make the numbers visible during the evenings.
Alfred is a door to door salesman, that is how he makes an income so thankfully he approached Jeeten. He explained what he did and immediately gained Jeeten’s respect.
“I gave him the go-ahead to paint my street number on my pavement. Yes I have my street number on my home which is easily visible during the day… but not really at night.”
“The benefit – the fact that, in the event of an emergency, my home will be easily identifiable, day or night. The police, ambulance, security company or any other help will be able to see my street number because of the reflective safety paint he uses. Simple yet effective in my view.”
While Alfred was busy working, Jeeten started chatting to him and he learned how hard Alfred has worked over the years. He started his small business, ‘Universal Sign Writers, 16 years ago. His hard work and dedication helped him build his home in Soweto.
“It has taken many years of hard work but he has finally achieved his life long dream of building a home for his family in Thokoza Park. Respect!”
Jeeten then discussed what his next goal was, to which Alfred responded that he hoped to buy a car so he could employ the youth and create jobs. Jeeten shared the post about Alfred with a call to action.
“Lets help Alfred achieve his goals so he can provide for his family, and create employment and opportunity for his community. “
