A young boy named Steffan Korb has been gifted the incredible ability to hear, stepping into a future filled with the sounds of his loved ones and the world around him.
Pretoria, South Africa (20 April 2025) – One little boy has received the gift of hearing, thanks to the collaborative efforts of those who understand the magic of a child experiencing the world around them beyond muffled sounds and isolating silence.
Steffan Korb received his cochlear implant this past week, as part of Operation Healing Hands’ Gift of Hearing campaign in partnership with the Miss South Africa Mia Le Roux Foundation and the Dis-Chem Pharmacies Foundation.
“We’re so excited for the journey with all our upcoming recipients in this incredible drive,” OHH said
“Our other patients, Akhanani and Michelle, will also be receiving their implants soon and we are beyond excited for these life-changing procedures made possible by our incredible sponsors, hospitals, doctors and therapists.”
Steffan was OHH’s first recipient of the amazing campaign, which will see cochlear implants given to several hearing-impaired individuals who cannot afford the life-altering device.
Cochlear implants directly stimulate the part of the ear that doesn’t work or is damaged by using a mild electrical current. It can benefit adults and children with severe hearing loss who cannot understand speech even with powerful hearing aids.
The initiative underscores the treatable nature of hearing loss, and while Steffan’s journey is just beginning with his new cochlear implant, our hearts are warmed that a young life will get to have a better experience of the world and connect with those around him.
