Ismael Mungaya met a stray dog that changed his life. Quickly he started saving more dogs, turning his parents garden into a sanctuary for strays.
Ismael Mungaya’s story started with one stray dog, he felt his heart opening and so he took the dog in to care for it. His father thought he has lost the plot. He yelled at Mungaya for an entire week, calling him mentally unstable.
His father didn’t understand that he was working to make his home town a better place for the street dogs living in it. Ismael lives in city of Arusha, in northern Tanzania. The view of dogs here is very poor, many people see them as dirty, unworthy creatures.
At just 21, Ismael refused to see the strays with anything but love. So he started spending all his time and money caring for as many as he could. He started the ‘Ismael Animal Rescue Tanzania’ as a way to combat the view of dogs in his city.
Working closely with his local vet they make sure the dogs are brought up to good health and weight, vaccinated and wormed, spayed or neutered and treated for any diseases or injuries
When he isn’t at his stray sanctuary Ismael spends time helping other animals. Most recently he joined the ‘Mission Rabies’ team and volunteered his time to treating dogs in Tanzania.
“I would like to let you that we have completed a vaccination campaign that we was doing during the two weeks of volunteering to help vaccinating dogs against Rabies”
“I learned so many helpful things as we met dogs with different situations, in this campaign over 1000 dogs were vaccinated against rabies, over 100 dogs were spayed and neutered.” – Ismael Mungaya
Ismael has been raising funds to build a proper shelter for his dogs. One of his followers launched a GoFundMe and hopes to help him raise enough money to help more animals.
