Meet The Street Hawker Whose Hustle and Heart Is Giving Stray Cats a Fighting Chance

When those with little make the greatest impact. Beauty is a remarkable street hawker using her little income from selling sweets and snacks to feed and nourish a feral cat colony in need.

Birchleigh, South Africa (05 November 2025) – In the suburb of Birchleigh, east of Johannesburg, there is a woman who lives up to her name and whose heart beats for the overlooked feral cats!

Beauty is a hawker who makes a living by selling sweets and snacks in the area and was discovered by chance by local animal hero Raymond de Wet, about nine months ago, when he had been trying to track down a pack of emaciated feral dogs reported running loose in Birchleigh.

While questioning the locals, Raymond met this incredible lady. Beauty, who gave him some helpful leads. However, just as he was about to leave and continue his search, Beauty had the most unexpected request.

“She asked me if I help cats,” Raymond shared.

As their conversation progressed, Raymond came to learn that Beauty had taken it upon herself to feed a small pack of cats in her neighbourhood that had been left behind by a departing neighbour.

“On her meagre income, she fed them daily.”

Raymond then reached out to another lady who helps feral cats in the area. Through this connection, the cats were sterilised, and Beauty received cat food monthly to feed them.

However, in a case of good things coming to an end, the lady who had been helping Beauty soon found herself struggling too.

Beauty now, yet again, needs assistance in providing food for these abandoned souls.

“If anybody is in a position to help Beauty continue her selfless mission, please contact her directly. She doesn’t want money, just donated cat food or vouchers,” Raymond said.
