Dance Movement provides a unique opportunity for young people, including those with disabilities, to develop their artistic talents and build a brighter future.

Durban, South Africa (06 August 2024) – The Wentworth Arts and Culture Organisation’s Dance Movement programme recently hosted its 11th annual dance festival at the Playhouse Theatre and it was a resounding success!

Led by talented choreographers Sufyaan Moosa, Tshediso Kabulu, and Jarryd Watson, the festival showcased a first-time performance act in South Africa of disabled wheelchair-bound dancers performing an aerial act entitled Six Corners.

Empowering the youth through art

Dance Movement provides professional development, creating opportunities for emerging talents, youth, and dancers aged between 18 and 25, including those who are differently-abled, to develop an artistic career through skills development and capacity-building workshops of training and development.

The organisation’s director, Jarryd Watson shared that the Dance Movement programme has been a cornerstone of the Wentworth community in Duban, uplifting countless young people through the power of the arts.

The organisation offers a comprehensive range of programs designed to meet diverse needs. This includes specialised training for individuals with disabilities, free arts education in underprivileged schools, and arts initiatives in rural areas.

The Wentworth Arts and Culture Organisation relies on public support and funding to keep its doors open and steer the youth of Wentworth in the right direction for a brighter future.
