A young artist at Home of Hope’s Amathemba School for children has big dreams for his future; the team have highlighted his art to help him achieve them.

Table View, South Africa (09 February 2023) – Home of Hope launched a school in 2010 called the Amathemba School for children. The school has some of the most talented young minds that come from disadvantaged backgrounds, but need more than what the traditional schooling system can offer them.

Home of Hope is a registered non-profit organisation that cares for abandoned, abused and neglected children with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) which is permanent brain damage as a result of prenatal exposure to alcohol.

One of the students at the school is a very talented painter. The young man, whose identity is being kept anonymous, has been painting for years and hopes to follow his dreams. The 18-year-old’s paintings were shared on the Home of Hope Facebook page. We saw them and had to know more about the artist.

Speaking to the young man about his dreams, we learned he started painting after one of his close friends took up drawing. He was inspired to do something artistic too and found a love for watercolours, a medium which many collectors admire. He says he found this love of painting at the age of eight but his mom says it was much earlier, that he started when he was four years old and his first painting was of a bicycle.

This talented young man has an eye for landscapes which is plain to see by the detail he manages to get for each of his paintings. He confirmed these are his favourite to paint.

A future in art is where his heart truly lies and while he will always stick to painting, he hopes to follow a career in other artistic fields.

“My dream for the future is to either become a tattoo artist while continuing to paint or take up a career in graphic design.”

Speaking to the team at Home of Hope, they shared that the talented artist has sold some of his paintings and is open to doing so. Should you be interested, you can reach out to the Home of Hope team here.

With a talent like this, we are sure this young man’s dream will become a reality. For those wanting to assist in his journey, Home of Hope says any art supplies would be welcomed. The donation drop-off location is 3 Fairbridge Road, Table View, Cape Town – from Monday to Friday 08:00-16:00.

An incredible opportunity would be an internship or job shadowing. Should any companies within his chosen fields want to get in touch, please use the details linked above.

Lastly, Home of Hope started a crowdfund so that anyone wanting to support the talented young artist, can do so easily. If you would like to support this young man’s dream, you can do so via BackaBuddy here.

Below are some examples of his completed artwork.
