A tune-slinging country star has been right under South Africa’s nose for 25 years. Now, he’s been nominated for the Annual Texas Sounds International Country Music Awards (the only local nominee)!

Cape Town, South Africa (01 September 2023) — Gareth James isn’t just a tune-slinging country star in the making, he’s also the only South African nominee who has the opportunity to represent South Africa at the Annual Texas Sounds International Country Music Awards this year.

Having been in the music industry for a quarter century, the global hat-tipping moment of musical acknowledgement comes as a huge break for the artist. Multitalented, Gareth has been nominated for three categories: Vocalist of the Year, Entertainer of the Year AND Songwriter of the Year.

Not to mention the recognition comes from the American State appreciated largely for its music culture (Texas), with locals ranging from Willie Nelson and Leon Bridges to Beyoncé, Khalid and many other artists who live in our playlists rent-free.

For Gareth, the opportunity to attend the Awards means the world to him as he recently shared on the Espresso Show, especially for the nod to his songwriting—one of the many musical crafts he’s emphasised.

However, James getting to the Awards Festival on the other side of the world will cost a pretty penny, and so James is calling on his fellow South Africans to help make his big break possible (and potentially put his name up in lights alongside the likes of South Africa’s My Kind of Country Winner, Micaela Kleinsmith.

You can help give Gareth his ride to his dreams here.
