The Cape Doctor was in town this week, causing multiple Capetonians to hold onto their hats for dear life. In a moment of kindness that blew people away, one taxi driver hopped out of his vehicle just to help an elderly man cross the road!
Cape Town, South Africa (02 February 2025) — Earlier this week, Capetonians received a serious visit from the Cape Doctor. People clamoured to poles as the wind raged through, held onto their hats (and each other) for dear life, and prayed that their washing had not been blown into a neighbouring country.
Some (mostly those who were safely inside) found it funny, others found a walk back from the shops had become an extreme sport. And some opted to help each other while the Cape Doctor swept through in ways that warmed our hearts.
One such case saw a taxi driver at the centre of kindness. In a video posted by ‘Hook&Grill’ that has received over 2 million views, an elderly man can be seen attempting to cross the street, fighting bouts of wind in the process.
Across the traffic island was a taxi. When a particularly intense push of wind came knocking, the poor man was reduced to his hands and needs in an effort to stabilise himself.
In a split second, the taxi driver from across the way was out and racing towards the man. He swiftly helped the stranger steady on and proceeded to walk him all the way across the street.
“Now that’s the South Africa I love,” one viewer shared with many echoing the sentiment. We couldn’t agree more!
