The weeks of waiting are finally over because the 2023 Matric results are officially in! And, the class of 2023 achieved some historic milestones for South Africa:
South Africa (19 January 2024) — The 2023 Matric results are officially in for South Africa, signalling the official start of a new chapter for young South Africans everywhere.
Intertwined with the results of the National Senior Certificate exams is some very exciting news for South Africa in education, as shared by the South African Government and the Department of Basic Education.
The 2023 Matric results saw the overall pass rate reach the 82.9% mark, which is higher than the 80.1% achieved in 2022. The overall pass rate in 2021 was 76.4%.
According to the government, this is the second-highest pass rate in the National Senior Certificate exams’ history when expressed as a number. When expressed as a percentage, it is the highest pass rate in the NSC’s history.
Not to mention, the amount of Bachelor passes, as well as passes with distinction, were shared as the highest they’ve ever been in the history of the NSC.
The provincial breakdown was as follows:
- Free State: 89.0%
- KwaZulu-Natal: 86.4%
- Gauteng: 85.4%
- North West: 81.6%
- Western Cape: 81.5%
- Eastern Cape: 81.4%
- Limpopo: 79.5%
- Northern Cape: 77.0%
- Mpumalanga: 75.8%
While these milestones are cause for celebration on a broad scale, we know that this time can be a melting pot of emotions for individuals who have their own milestones in mind.
