The Gugulethu-Seaboard Community Action Network is working tirelessly to support community members by delivering soup kitchen meals to their doors.

Gugulethu, South Africa (14 July 2021) – South Africans are feeling nervous and rightly so but there are heroes among us who are helping to ease the nerves of their fellow community members.

The Gugulethu-Seaboard CAN was established on the 24th of March, the eve of South Africa’s Covid-19 lockdown by concerned residents. Residents of the Atlantic Seaboard collaborated and created a Community Action Network (CAN) to address issues that arose from the South African lockdown and response to COVID-19.

They have continued to support the Gugulethu and Atlantic Seaboard communities over the last year and a half.

In recent news, members of the CAN mounted baskets onto their bicycles, filled the baskets with cooked meals and delivered them to people living in Gugulethu who are not able to get the soup kitchens set up by the CAN.

Throughout all the chaos and anarchy, the Gugulethu-Seaboard CAN is calling for unity in South Africa and encouraging everyone to stand together during these trying times.

You can find out more about supporting the Gugulethu-Seaboard CAN via the website here.

“We have been through too much as a country but we as South Africans are people that can come together and unite in any problem. With everything happening our kitchens from all corners of Guguletu still looking after the vulnerable citizens of our community, lets unite again to keep each other safe. Be blessed”

Not only is the CAN supporting people unable to get to the soup kitchens, they are taking a stand against the unrest developing in Gugulethu.

“This is a short brief that will bring to light as to how the Gugulethu CAN has assisted Gugulethu Mall during these trying times of unforseen unrest within Gugulethu.

To lobby a safe and secure Gugulethu Mall, we assist in the feeding of 250-300 members of the Neighborhood Watch “Patrollers” and CPF who decided yesterday to put their lives on the line against those who inflict unrest and envisage looting the Mall for agendas of own selfish benefits. Support has come in the form of vouchers to the value of R1000 at the two currently existing Community Kitchens who have availed themselves to make sure the neighborhood watch are at least fed while they assume a critical position.

The Gugulethu CAN stands firmly against the looting as it will be another vehicle that decapitates community in putting their very own brothers and sisters out of work. We are working tirelessly and have joint forces with the Community and Gugulethu SAPS in protecting infrastructure that services the people of Gugulethu.

NO TO Looting is the call of action till the situation subsides.”
