A mother and child, once living in a leaking shack, now have a safe space to call home. While even more mothers have also been empowered to show up as their best selves for their little ones. These are the fruits of Hamba Bamba Funda’s heartfelt mission to transform lives.

Kliptown, South Africa (09 December 2025) – Supporting mothers and strengthening bonds is at the heart of Hamba Bamba Funda’s mission to create nurturing environments for children and transform early childhood development in South Africa’s underserved communities.

This mission recently manifested when the non-profit shared an urgent plea for Mother Zanele and her baby Oluhle in Kliptown, who had been living in a leaking shack. Their one-room space was soaked and unsafe.

A few weeks later, thanks to the gracious heart of a remarkable soul, Zanele and her little one now have a place to call home. A shelter of safety, warmth, and hope.

“No longer exposed to the rain, they can rest in comfort, embraced by the kindness that makes community possible. This is what Thriving Together truly means. When compassion becomes action, and lives are changed through love,” Hamba Bamba Funda (HBF) said.

Still in Kliptown and in the spirit of thriving together, caregivers and their babies, community partners, and generous sponsors gathered for a day of empowerment and festive joy at the organisation’s 2nd Annual Christmas Care: Crafting Skills for Change event.

Attendees participated in activities like knitting, cooking demos, and symbolic mother-baby engagement sessions. The highlight of the day was the mothers of the Thriving Together project sharing powerful testimonials, which demonstrated the transformative impact of sustained caregiver support offered by HBF.

During the event, Founder Monja Boonzaier shared the Christmas Grace message:

“Umusa Kakhisimusi. Ukwakha amakhono, ukwakha impilo. (The Spirit of Christmas is developing skills for life).”

With 80 caregivers and babies in attendance, Hamba Bamba Funda celebrated a year of impact, brimming with resilience, resourcefulness, and care.
