Carol Liebenberg, a resident in Bryanston, posted a photo to her local community group after seeing a man standing at an intersection handing out gifts randomly to people in the streets.

The gentleman was stopping while in traffic to hand gifts to people on the roads.

“To the Gentleman in the photo. I drove behind you on Main Rd all the way from William Nicol to Witkoppen. It has been a privilege to watch you spread the Christmas cheer and goodwill with your gifts to random strangers found next to the road.

The act of kindness caught her by surprise but also reminded her what the Christmas season is really about.

You’re an amazing individual and an example of how South Africans should treat each other.

Thank you for making my day and that of everyone else you touched today with your kindness and compassion.”

Liebenberg posted the picture and caption in the hopes of inspiring others but also to find the Good Samaritan who was sharing Christmas cheer, goodwill and compassion.

The post has been shared and seen by thousands of social media users who all agree that this showed the “real” South Africa… the one filled with beautiful hearts and kind people.

Estelle Van Graan commented: “Thank you for your generosity, hopefully we’ll all be encouraged to do same!”

Edwin Rudman added: “He just started what Christmas actually means , we must do that as well all of us.”

Meg Hendry said: “Thank you for sharing this, love seeing things like this.”
