waste-picker

Lani Smith witnessed an incredible act of kindness, a person used their car to help a waste-picker push their broken trolley up a steep hill

Randburg, Johannesburg – Lani Smith was deeply moved by a random act of kindness she had the privilege to witness from afar. She filmed the entire thing on her phone and shared it with her community Facebook group, I Love Randburg.

She captioned the video with thanks towards the person that went out of their way to help a waste-picker. A silver car stopped behind the waste-picker who was clearly struggling to get his trolly up and over a hill. The car then used its force to push the trolley up the hill slowly. Saving the waste-picker an enormous effort.

“Thanks to this guy for being a kind human. The man’s trolley broke and he could not get it up the steep hill. he helped push the recycling load up golf club terrace road with his car.

Kindness like this is a rare thing!” – Lani Smith

People were really chuffed by the Good Samaritan’s efforts to help the waste-picker. The men and women that take on the task to dig through people’s trash in order to make a living have been called South Africa’s most efficient recycling systems. One viewer and fellow community member pointed this fact out.

“Helping another human working bloody hard to make a living and to provide our most effective recycling system” – Anastasya Eliseeva

“That’s what we do! This makes us true South Africans” – Carel van Heerden

“I tell you no matter what, Good hearts are there to stay” – Cassidy Ngonie Rupiya
