There’s a new mural in town along the Sea Point Promenade! But, for the artist behind it (Yay Abe), it was an extra special creation and a full circle moment as he revamped the same wall he painted years ago:
Sea Point, South Africa (18 June 2024) — Cape Town based creative Yay Abe (Russell Abrahams) recently gave Sea Point promenade frequenters something new to look forward to on their strolls thanks to a fresh dose of mural magic he recently added to the area.
Although Yay Abe has made massive leaps and strides in his career as an illustrator—he’s worked with several big brands over the past few years, and a recent victory saw him use his talents for a very famous purple packaged chocolate—the artist still stays true to his roots no matter how far his infectiously joyful creations take him.

Beyond the playful energy his recent mural brought to the “prom”, it was also a special painting session for him personally.
Five years ago, Yay Abe painted on the very same wall! A drastically different time, getting the chance to go back and upgrade the wall with improved skills and new perspectives was a full circle moment for the artist.

SJ Artists helped make the full circle moment happen for Yay Abe; the same artistic community who also helped bring the Sea Walls South Africa art project to life last year.
“Hopefully I can continue making art on this same spot until I’m an old little man,” he shared.
“I feel like this wall is documenting my journey as an artist,” he added.
Meanwhile in other mural news, graffiti artist Giffy has also dolled up a part of Scottburgh Beach with a new, nature-appreciating piece installed recently! Check it out here.
