Graffiti artist Giffy spent a week hard at work to create a wonderful wall of sea art that’s now complete at Scottburgh Beach!

Scottburgh, South Africa (14 June 2024) — Last week as the days winded down to World Ocean Day, artist Giffy Duminy was hard at work creating a new wall of sea art to bring a wave of joy to Scottburgh Beach.

The KwaZulu-natal local and graffiti artist, known and loved for his creations as well as the deep appreciation of nature that inspires much of Giffy’s work, went on a painting mission commissioned by The Ocean Festival to showcase natural treasures that don’t always claim the spotlight—anemones and soft coral.

Giffy brought Turnet Sun Corals, Candy-striped Anemones and Tiger Anemones to the surface gorgeously through the fresh sea wall that reminds us of our local waterbodies brim with the most fascinating treasures.

For references, the artist used photographs he captured while scuba diving in the Aliwal shoal marine protected are (offshore from the same beach where the sea wall now stands) in tow with his style that exudes realism and an extra helping of vibrance.

World Ocean Day was celebrated on 8 June under the theme ‘Catalyzing Action for Our Ocean & Climate’. In South Africa, there are many dedicated organisations working hard to protect our oceanscapes from shore to sea, and you can find some of them here.
