South Africa overcame Bangladesh to secure a last-four showdown with unbeaten hosts England as their quest for a maiden world title continues.

England (29 June 2026) – The Proteas Women are through to the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, keeping South Africa’s hopes of lifting a first-ever title alive.

South Africa sealed their place in the last four after edging Bangladesh by five wickets in their final group-stage match, joining Australia, England and the West Indies as this year’s semi-finalists.

The victory sets up a mouth-watering clash against unbeaten hosts England at The Oval on Thursday, while Australia will face the West Indies in the first semi-final on Tuesday. The winners will meet in the final at Lord’s on 5 July.

The Proteas’ route to the knockout stages was not linear. After opening defeats to Australia and Pakistan, questions were raised about their batting, but the team responded impressively with consecutive wins over India and the Netherlands before getting over the line against Bangladesh.

Captain Laura Wolvaardt has led from the front throughout the tournament, while Tazmin Brits arrives in the semi-finals full of confidence after scoring her maiden T20I century against the Netherlands.

Against Bangladesh, however, it was experienced all-rounder Marizanne Kapp who once again proved her value. A well deserved player of the match after leaving everything on the crease. Annerie Dercksen looked set to guide the Proteas home with a valuable 45 before Bangladesh threatened a late twist.

Now, with a place in the final on the line, the Proteas face arguably their toughest assignment yet against an England side that has gone unbeaten throughout the tournament.

After fighting their way into the last four, South Africa will be hoping one more big performance can move them a step closer to World Cup glory.
