Rambo is a little ginger kitten. He’s 14 weeks old, and he’s already facing an uncertain future. Thankfully, he’s got a crew of caring humans rallying for the support he needs.

Durban, South Africa (06 January 2026) – Rambo does not have a home or family of his own. Currently, he’s under the care of Westville Vet after suffering a serious fall and fracturing his shoulder blade. Without urgent surgery, pain and permanent damage will lead to a tough life that no cat deserves.

The angels in this story are the team from Take Me Home Kitten Adoptions in Durban.

They’ve stepped in to help Rambo by getting him the veterinary care he needs before they can place him in a foster home and ultimately, with his forever family.

Surgery is urgent, but vets can’t go ahead until the cost for his care is covered. A hurdle that they can’t afford without help. So, the NPC has called on the community, and people have started to show up – all for a little kitten.

“He is currently admitted at Westville Vet, where he is being kept comfortable on morphine while we race against time. The vets have confirmed that Rambo urgently needs surgery to insert a plate to stabilise the fracture.” shares the team. “The quoted cost for Rambo’s surgery and care is R12,000 – R20,000, and the vet requires 50% of the quote to be paid by Wednesday for the surgery to go ahead.”

The plea was made on Facebook late on Monday. By Tuesday afternoon, the post had been widely shared. That’s the good thing about animal welfare. If you can’t help financially, there’s always another way. Donating, volunteering your time, or simply sharing a post can make a difference.

While support has shown up for Rambo in droves already, the full costs for his veterinary care will take a village.

Take Me Home Kitten Adoptions are well-known in Durban for combating the cat crisis. According to older stats posted by the NPC, between the four months from October 2024 to January 2025, the team managed to successfully home over 130 cats. Beyond the work of finding fosters and families, the team also focuses on sterilisation drives to help curb a growing criss.
