Twenty young South Africans are gearing up to swap their school colours for the national badge as they prepare to make history at the inaugural FIH Youth Hockey5s World Cup in Egypt.
South Africa (19 October 2026) – South Africa’s next generation of hockey stars is ready to take centre stage!
Twenty talented learners from schools across the country have been selected to represent Mzansi at the first-ever FIH Youth Hockey5s World Cup, taking place in Ismailia, Egypt, from 7 to 12 December 2026.
The squad features 10 boys and 10 girls who earned their spots at a competitive national selection camp earlier this month. With plenty of talent, determination and school pride in their corner, these youngsters are now preparing to take their skills to the international stage.
And what a milestone it is!

The tournament marks an exciting new chapter for youth hockey, giving emerging players from around the world an opportunity to compete against some of the best young talent in the game.
But the experience will be about more than what happens on the pitch. Players and team officials will also take part in developmental and educational programmes inspired by the Youth Olympic Games framework, creating opportunities to grow as athletes, leaders and individuals.
Of course, behind every rising sports star is often a school community helping them shine. From dedicated coaches and committed teachers to competitive fixtures and high-performance pathways, school sport plays a major role in helping young athletes discover their potential.
These 20 learners are proof of what can happen when talent meets hard work and opportunity.
As the countdown to December begins, one thing is certain: these youngsters have earned their moment in the spotlight, and South Africa will be cheering them on every step of the way.
