A team of passionate young South Africans have come up with an idea to help put parents at ease; they developed a transport system so children can get to school safely.
Cape Town, South Africa (01 October 2020) – Every working parent has concerns about how their child is getting to and from school. Many make lift-club arrangements or have a family member transport them but sometimes this doesn’t leave them feeling at ease nor does it fit an extra-mural schedule.
Having a passion for providing safe transportation, the team at the startup Scholar Route dreamed up a system that would guarantee child safety. They recently rolled out their flagship school route in Table View, Cape Town.
While ride-sharing apps are not a new innovation, having one that specifically caters to protecting children in transit is great. The team have a very strict recruitment process for potential drivers. All background checks are thoroughly done to ensure the driver has no history of sexual offence and has a clean criminal record.
To ensure only the best drivers, the team set up a rewards programme so the better the driver, the greater the reward. This is measured by how safely the driver drives when transporting a child. Not only is the driver fully vetted, but the car also has to be 100% road-worthy in order to be eligible for the transport programme.
Parents are able to track their children, much like other ride-share apps, but they are also able to schedule trips in advance by a week. This helps many manage the ever-growing to-do list of life. They can also list any special needs, like if the child requires a car chair or booster.
