South African youngster Shandre Campbell plays his part as Club Brugge claim a Champions League victory.
Astana, Kazakhstan (21 January 2026) – South African winger Shandre Campbell was once again part of the action as Club Brugge returned to UEFA Champions League duty and delivered an emphatic performance this week in Europe’s fiercest football competition.
The Belgian outfit claimed a convincing 4–1 victory over Kairat Almaty, continuing their strong run in Europe’s elite club competition. Shandre featured off the bench in the second half as Brugge asserted their dominance.
For Shandre, the appearance marked another important step in his steady integration into Club Brugge’s first-team setup. While still just 19, the Johannesburg-born winger continues to gain valuable experience at the highest level, learning alongside established European campaigners in a competition renowned for its intensity and quality.
The young attacker has been gradually building his profile in Europe after impressing back home in South Africa, where his performances in domestic competitions, including the 2023/24 Nedbank Cup highlighted his confidence on the ball.
Earlier in his European journey, Shandre reached a major personal milestone when he made his UEFA Champions League debut last year, coming on late during a clash against Italian side Atalanta in Bergamo. That moment signalled his arrival on one of football’s biggest stages and laid the groundwork for further opportunities this season.
