Local really is lekker – and you don’t just have to take our word for it! SPAR has scooped nine honours at the 2026 Food & Home Awards, with four Gold and five Silver awards recognising standout locally produced products across its meat, pasta and cheese ranges!

South Africa (11 September 2026) – SPAR has received nine honours at the 2026 Food & Home Awards, with products across its private label portfolio recognised for excellence in the meat, pasta and cheese categories!

Four SPAR products won first-place Gold Awards, with a further five receiving runner-up Silver Awards.

The wins span SPAR Tender & Tasty, Your Butcher by SPAR and SPAR Signature Selection, demonstrating that ‘local really is indeed lekker’ as quality products across SPAR’s broad own-brand offering span from locally produced meat products to premium pantry and speciality ranges.

The annual Food & Home Awards celebrate the standout brands, products and producers shaping South Africa’s evolving food landscape. Recognised as a credible benchmark for excellence, the awards honour products that demonstrate exceptional flavour, quality, consistency and innovation through a rigorous, independent expert-judging process.

For SPAR Private Label, these accolades extend beyond individual product recognition, providing valuable third-party endorsement of the range’s overall quality, innovation and credibility.

Tony Mun-Gavin, Private Label Executive at SPAR South Africa, said the results were particularly meaningful because these accolades represent more than recognition for individual products; they provide powerful third-party validation of the quality, consistency and credibility of SPAR products.

“We are incredibly proud to have nine SPAR products recognised at this year’s Food & Home Awards. For our customers, awards like these provide another reason to trust the quality of all products carrying the SPAR name – whether they are choosing an everyday staple, trying something new or looking for something a little more special”.

Tony added that they also recognise the work that happens long before a product reaches the shelf.

“Our teams work closely with suppliers and producers across sourcing, product development and quality assurance to create products that deliver the quality our customers expect from SPAR”, said Mun-Gavin.

SPAR’s Private label gives shoppers another way to manage their baskets without having to choose between affordability, quality and variety. For SPAR, it also creates an opportunity to work closely with suppliers and producers to develop products specifically for its customers’ needs, including flavours, formats and ranges informed by how South Africans shop, cook and eat.

“These wins encourage us to keep raising the bar,” said Mun-Gavin.

“Our focus is on understanding what customers want, working with the right supplier partners and developing products that genuinely earn their place in the basket. Ultimately, the SPAR name on the pack needs to give customers confidence in what they are taking home.”

The award-winning products are available at selected SPAR stores nationwide, subject to availability.
