The Durban-based surfer gears up to showcase his backhand prowess at the ISA World Surfing Games, while rallying support to make his dream a reality.
Durban, South Africa (29 August 2025) – Surfing dreams are becoming reality for Durban-based Avuyile Ndamase, who has earned his first National Cap to compete at the ISA World Surfing Games in El Salvador. With powerful backhand waves ahead, the Port St Johns surfer is ready to make his mark. For Avuyile, the ocean has always been more than just waves; it has been a place of growth, resilience, and possibility. Now, the talented surfer is set to showcase his talent on the global stage from 5–14 September 2025.
The powerful surfer will pull on the green and gold for the very first time, marking a proud milestone in his surfing journey. Competing against some of the best surfers in the world, Avuyile will get the chance to showcase his flair and strength at the punchy beach breaks of La Bocana and the long, peeling waves of El Sunzal; conditions that play perfectly to his backhand style.
While the call-up is a dream come true, it comes with challenges. Unlike many international sporting codes, surfers representing South Africa at world events are required to fund their own participation. This includes flights, accommodation, and competition costs.
“I am humbled to announce my first SA team cap thank you Surfing SA board for the opportunity. I have really put my heart and soul into surfing, through all the difficulties and life changing challenges. I am so stoked to have the stoke to keep loving the sport of kings. Below is a live link of my fundraising campaign,as we all know that sport can be financially demanding and I will need all the assistance and support I can get from my dear community.” Avuyile shared.
To help turn this dream into reality, he has launched a BackaBuddy fundraising page, giving supporters the chance to be part of his journey. Every contribution, big or small, will help cover the expenses that come with carrying the South African flag onto the world stage.
Avuyile’s story is more than just about chasing waves; it’s about perseverance, self-belief, and the hope of inspiring the next generation of South African surfers. With the backing of his community, he has the chance not only to compete but also to make history.
