Bayanda Walaza will make his first-ever indoor appearance when he lines up in a loaded 60m field at the World Indoor Tour Gold meeting on 6 February.

South Africa (16 January 2026) – South African sprint fans can start circling the calendar, because 6 February is shaping up to be a big one. After months of patience and recovery, teenage sprint sensation Bayanda Walaza is officially back and ready to test himself on one of the sport’s biggest indoor stages.

The athlete widely recognised as the world’s fastest teenager will make his first-ever indoor appearance when he lines up in the men’s 60m at the World Indoor Tour Gold meeting in Madrid. It marks an important milestone for the young sprinter, who is building momentum as he transitions into the senior ranks of athletics.

Bayanda’s return carries extra significance after a challenging end to last season. He was forced to miss the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo after sustaining a hamstring injury at the Diamond League Final in Zurich in August.

This offered time to reset and recover.

That recovery period now appears firmly behind him. Madrid will not only be Bayanda’s indoor debut, but also his first professional race of the season and it comes against a stacked global field. The 60m lineup includes established international names such as Americans Marcellus Moore and Coby Hilton.

The move indoors represents important chapter in that journey. The 60m is explosive and decided in seconds. This is the perfect place for Bayanda to measure himself against some of the sport’s quickest.

Now that the countdown to Madrid continues, Bayanda is back, healthy and hungry, with a point to prove.
