South Africa’s Bryan Habana has been announced as one of the 5 rugby stars from around the world to be inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame!
Global (11 October 2023) — Bryan Habana is a force of rugby to be reckoned with, and now, his incredibly successful rugby career is set to be honoured in the World Rugby Hall of Fame.
Habana is set to be inducted along with four other rugby legends around the world, including New Zealand’s Dan Carter, France’s Thierry Dusautoir, Australia’s George Smith and Argentina’s Juan Martín Hernández, per World Rugby’s Announcement.
Habana’s induction into the World Rugby Hall of Fame recognises many of the former Springbok’s big contributions to the sport that enveloped South Africa in pride.
However, it recognised not only Habana’s extraordinary place on World Cup fields (like his World Player of the Year winning efforts in the 2007 Rugby World Cup where scored eight tries equalling the late Jonah Lomu) but the breadth of his contributions and achievements to and in the sport throughout his career, which ended with retirement in 2018.
At the same time, the honour commends his character-building values, including integrity, passion, solidarity, discipline and respect.
Reflecting on the honour, Habana shared:
“Where does one even start..
“Inspired by a group of men in “95 to play this beautiful game … never in my wildest dreams did I comprehend how it would change my life!! To every family member, loved one, friend, teacher, coach, supporter, critic, administrator that was was on my journey… Thank you.
“Immensely grateful to have been blessed with a talent from God to live out my dream and to proudly represent my country for as long as I did…
“Extremely humbled by the [World Rugby] committee that bestowed this incredible honour on me. Testimony that with hard work, sacrifice, discipline, dedication and perseverance(and a little luck)… dreams do come true!!!”
