Chad le Clos made South Africa proud when he competed in the men’s 200-meter butterfly final at the Tokyo Olympics.

 

Tokyo, Japan (28 July 2021) – The record-breaking swimmer Chad le Clos did his utmost best this morning when he represented South Africa in the men’s 200-meter butterfly final.

He finished fifth in under two minutes. The winner was Hungarian swimmer Kristóf Milák.

The event took place this morning at 03:49 CAT.

This is the 29-year-old’s third Olympics after he became a swimming sensation at the London 2012 Olympics.

On the first day of the 2012 Summer Olympics, Le Clos finished fifth in the 400m individual medley. On the 4th day, Le Clos won the gold medal in the 200m butterfly in 1min 52.96 sec, edging out the two-time defending Olympic champion and world record holder, Michael Phelps, by 0.05 seconds.

Le Clos has another chance to vie for a medal. He’ll compete in the men’s 100-meter butterfly heats. It’ll start at 12:56 CAT.

Team South Africa has so far won two medals, both silver. Tatjana Schoenmaker (24) bagged one for the 100-meter breaststroke and Bianca Buitendag (27) the other for her excellent surfing skills.
