PFL Africa goes to Johannesburg with a star-studded line-up of fighters ready to showcase grit, including Pretoria’s Elbert “Pikachu” Steyn.

Johannesburg, South Africa (07 August 2025) – Get ready, Joburg! After a successful leg in Cape Town, PFL Africa goes to the City of Gold, promising to show golden performances from Africa’s top fighters. One of those fighters is Pretoria’s Elbert “Pikachu” Steyn. The stage is set, and he is ready to make history in front of a sold-out home crowd on Saturday.

PFL Africa will host its second-ever showdown, following an electric, sold-out debut in Cape Town last month. The Big Top Arena at Carnival City in Brakpan is the place to be as Steyn faces off against Morocco’s Abderrahman Errachidy in a featherweight clash.

At just 25 years old, Steyn is flying the South African flag high as the only Mzansi-born fighter on the night’s stacked card. Featuring 20 of the continent’s top featherweights and welterweights, this event is about showcasing African excellence in MMA. He has a flawless professional record of 3-0 and is on a mission to keep the winning streak alive. With the PFL Africa semi-finals in mind.

Speaking at the media event held at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Steyn could not contain his excitement about the crowd’s role in his performance.

“PFL Africa is definitely a history making event and everyone there on Saturday is going to be part of history. I am super excited to be there and I know the crowd is going to absolutely bring it. I have also got a lot of supporters, and I am going to carry them on my back. That pressure helps shape and motivate me, so I love to have that support and deal with the pressure it brings.”

For Steyn, competing in a PFL event on home soil is more than just another fight, but more like a “pinch me” moment.

“I never thought I would do PFL in South Africa. I always knew I’d make it to the big stage eventually, but I didn’t think that would be locally, so that’s a shocker for me.”

The 2025 PFL Africa season will see 32 fighters from 15 different African nations clash across four divisions, all battling it out for the honour of being crowned the first-ever PFL Africa Champions.
