Every child is a champion in their own right and therefore needs a coach who’ll help them reach their full potential. That’s why Jono Kruger is running the distance to ensure Mdantsane youth don’t miss out on opportunities that will set them up for greatness.

Cape Town, South Africa (31 October 2025) – Sport and uplifting the youth of Mdantsane are two things EduSport’s Founder, Jono Kruger, is seriously passionate about. His dedication is so strong that he is willing to run a great distance while pulling a box filled with the hopes and dreams of this community’s children.

Tomorrow, 1 November, the EduSport Youth founder will run from Cape Town to East London, covering a distance of 1050km to launch the organisation’s Vula Mdantsane Run and raise awareness for the Coach in a Box programme.

Coach in a Box is one of EduSport’s flagship programmes built on the belief that ‘every child is a champion who needs a coach.’

The programme empowers communities by creating social-impact jobs for local youth, who serve as Academic (Literacy and Numeracy), Sport (Rugby and Netball), and Empowerment (Psychosocial) coaches in primary schools. Through this, Mdantsane youth gain access to quality education, sport, and personal wellness opportunities, while young coaches gain meaningful employment and purpose.

Jono will run the entire distance while pulling a Coach in a Box prototype – a mobile unit carrying letters from Mdantsane children addressed to the Mayoress of East London, appealing for support and investment to scale the programme for greater impact.

Not one to shy away from a purpose-driven challenge, in 2022, Jono Kruger ran 300km alongside three Grade 12 students to raise R660,000 for Ubuko.

Now Jono is preparing for an even greater challenge, because every rising star needs a coach.

Support the Vula Mdantsane Run and help empower youth by donating to the Coach in a Box programme, and make a lasting impact in Mdantsane.
