Kgothatso Montjane is home from France and South Africa can’t get enough; she was welcomed home at OR Tambo where she was surrounded by loving supporters.
Johannesburg, South Africa (22 June 2023) – Kgothatso Montjane touched down in South Africa on the 21st of June 2023 at the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, as a Roland-Garros Grand Slam champion. South Africans were there to give her a hero’s welcome home.
Proudly South African wheelchair tennis star Kgothatso Montjane has played her way to becoming a Grand Slam champion alongside fellow Japanese star Yui Kamiji in the women’s wheelchair doubles.
The Limpopo-born athlete made history in 2018 and 2021 by becoming South Africa’s first black woman to reach a Wimbledon singles final. Her tennis career has been on the rise ever since and she continues to inspire at every tournament she earns her place in.
Tennis South Africa encouraged supporters to join them for her arrival back in South Africa yesterday. She was greeted by adoring fans and several government officials who were proud to welcome her back.
