Kindness came in first place for the animal heroes of Mdzananda Animal Clinic, offering one less thing to worry about for the animal heroes who were recently robbed while trying to do good:
Cape Town, South Africa (22 October 2023) — Kindness crossed the finish line at just the right time for the animal heroes at Mdzananda Animal Clinic, thanks to the spirit and sport of several participants who raced in the Cape Town Marathon last weekend.
The animal heroes had ever so recently experienced very tough times after what was intended to be a good deed was tainted. The Fencing Project these animal heroes were thrilled to roll out would’ve meant more secure spaces and more animal adoptions. However, it was met with hardship after criminals reportedly robbed the staff members set to install the first of what was supposed to be many fences.
Mdzananda pleaded to the public to help them recover what was lost (a generator, tools and personal items) as well as to help with the medical bills of the staff who had been assaulted at the time.
“I am so angry. We work so hard for this community to elevate and empower people and to make the lives of animals better. It is sad how the criminal element affects the good people of Khayelitsha who want to have a normal safe environment for their families and their pets,” shared General Manager Heidi May at the time.
However, as it so often does, kindness crossed the finish line for the animal heroes as runners and over 40 donors came together to secure fundraising contributions for the clinic, bringing home R24 501. Heidi May and Megan Michler who are Mdzananda team members, were also part of the big effort.
These funds set to help the animals of Khayelitsha came as a much-needed dose of hope that will take the burden off their main fundraising efforts at what is the tail end of hard times.
