From heartfelt letters to the pitch, the Proteas Women are sharing their journey, hopes, and determination as they gear up for the 2025 Women’s World Cup.
Guwahati, India (03 October 2025)- The 13th edition of the ICC Women’s 50-over World Cup is officially underway, and for the Proteas Women, the dream begins against England. Having reached back to back finals in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2023 and 2024, the Proteas have already established themselves among the world’s best.
But beyond the tactics and game plans, this World Cup is also about heart and that is where the team’s “Letters to the World Cup” series comes in.
Writing to the dream
Ahead of their opening clash, the Proteas Women took a different route to express what this tournament means to them. In a moving campaign, players wrote letters directly to the World Cup
For Tazmin Brits, the message was deeply personal.
“Dear World Cup, I’ve been dreaming about you since 2023. It’s like you’ve never left my mind. This time things will be a little bit different. I want to make my country proud. I want to be part of the team that wins the World Cup. So you’ve seen what I can do, but please sit back. There’s a lot more coming your way. See you soon. Love, Tazza Brits, the World Cup winner.”

A return to the stage
For Nondumiso Shangase, the letter to the World Cup was about resilience after setbacks.
“Dear World Cup, I’ve been dreaming about this day since the day I made my debut in 2019. It hasn’t been easy for me in and out of the team, and that led to me missing the 2022 World Cup. But here I am, and that didn’t stop me from working hard and giving all the performances back at home. This time I’m coming with my lovely teammates, bringing joy.”
Chasing World Cup Glory
Head coach Mandla Mashimbyi has spoken of the importance of trust, authentic leadership, and taking the tournament game by game.
As the Proteas Women step onto the world stage, they carry hopes of a nation. Also the words written that reveal the soul behind the sport.
