Both the South African U21 Men and Women celebrated qualifying for the FIH Hockey Junior World Cups this week, waving the flag high for SA.
South Africa (16 March 2023) – The South African Men’s and Women’s Junior Hockey sides are currently in Egypt taking part in the Junior Africa Cup and they have both just qualified for the world cup which is set to take place in December this year, in Malaysia.
The junior men qualified for the world cup after successfully beating their opponent, team Kenya. The victory secured their place in the Africa Cup final against Egypt which is set to take place today, 16 March 2023.
“The boys have done it too! Qualifying for the Junior Africa Cup final after their 6-1 victory against Kenya today. With this they have also qualified for the FIH Hockey Junior World Cup in Malaysia later this year.
They will now take on long-term rivals Egypt in the final on Thursday looking to lift the crown after finishing second in the last edition in 2016.” – South African Hockey Association.
The junior men’s team alongside the junior women’s team have flown the flag high in Egypt. Both securing places in the Africa Cup finals and with real promise of bringing a trophy home!
While South Africa’s U21 men will face off against host city Egypt, the ladies’ team face off against neighbouring Zimbabwe.
