California, United States of America (03 November 2024) – The 2024 ISA World Para Surfing Championship is poised to make waves, and South Africa is ready to ride the crest!

With Tracy Lee McKay and JP Veaudry representing the nation, and Owami Zama and McKay leading the team, South Africa’s para surfers are set to make Mzansi proud and inspire the world.

JP’s surfing classification is Male Para Surf Stand 1, while Tracy’s is Female Para Surf Prone 1. Each classification will crown men’s and women’s World Champions.

According to the International Surfing Association (ISA), a huge list of former World Champions will return to defend their titles at the highly anticipated event which will run from 3 to 9 November at Huntington Beach.

15 men and 10 women who have won World Titles will be present in Huntington Beach, including multiple Gold Medalists Alana Nichols (USA), Davi Teixeira (BRA), Sarah Bettencourt (USA), Mark ‘Mono’ Stewart (AUS), Marta Paço (POR), and Matt Formston (AUS).

51 athletes representing 25 national teams will gather to compete for the coveted Team Gold Medals. The current Team World Champions, Team France, will seek to defend their title.

Big on inclusivity and gender equity, the ISA has officially classified over 300 para surfers and the event will see women making up over a third of the total competition.

The ISA will also host a gathering of Para Surfing women before the World Para Surfing Championship to join in the community, share resources, discuss barriers, and aim to promote Para Surfing to more women.

And just when you thought this event couldn’t get any better, the ISA has partnered with Huntington Beach Wetlands Conservancy, a non-profit organisation, to restore and protect the coastal wetlands of Southeast Huntington Beach.

The live webcast will be streamed on www.isasurf.org from November 3-9.
