Minke Janse van Rensburg won four gold and two silver medals recently and will now represent SA in 9th Down Syndrome World Swimming Championship in Canada

 

Minke Janse van Rensburg is set to make South Africans really proud. The 13-year old is from George in the Western Cape. She has been chosen to represent South Africa in the 9th Down Syndrome World Swimming Championship in Canada next month.

Minke is one of nine swimmers selected by the South African Sports Association for the Intellectually Impaired. The 2018 World Down Syndrome Swimming Championships will be held in Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada, from the 19th of July to the 27th.

During a recent national swim championship, she won four gold and two silver medals. Her swimming coach Sybeth Hughes said they had not expected her to achieve so much so soon in her career.

Minke’s father, Hennie Janse van Rensburg, says his daughter’s participation in sport has greatly improved her quality of life and hopes she can inspire other children with Down Syndrome.

South Africans have been inspired by Minke’s story and have been sending her their wishes of success.
