From thrilling final moments to fun fan costumes, Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s victory highlights the blend of high-level cricket and entertainment in SA20.
Cape Town, South Africa (26 January 2026) – As another Betway SA20 season draws to a close, South Africa’s most vibrant cricket spectacle once again delivered far more than just results on a scoreboard.
The fun costumes have been packed away, the music has faded, and the Orange Army is celebrating again. Sunrisers Eastern Cape have reclaimed the crown, sealing their third title in four seasons.
From the very first season, the Sunrisers set the tone, winning the inaugural title, defending it the year after, briefly stepping aside last season, and now storming back to the top.
Three trophies from four attempts? That’s just pure dominance.

Noise, of course, being a key part of what makes SA20… SA20. Newlands was sold out for the final, but the spectacle wasn’t only on the field. Across the season, fans turned up dressed in all sorts of costumes. One standout moment saw a fan dressed as a character from the movie Wicked, holding a sign that read “Wicket?! I thought we were seeing Wicked!!!”

Throughout the interviews, we saw fans being asked to explain cricket terms they’ve never heard of and proudly admitting they’re just there for the vibes.
Still, when it came time to settle the business end of the season, Sunrisers Eastern Cape flipped the switch. Chasing 159 in the final, Dewald Brevis produced a breathtaking century for the Pretoria Capitals. But then came captain Tristan Stubbs, who alongside Matthew Breetzke, stitched together a match-winning partnership.
“I am really proud and thrilled. It was a hell of a final. For Dewald to play like he did and for us to hold them to 158. And then needing 13 an over for the last four-five overs,” Sunrisers coach Adrian Birrell said.
Four finals, three titles, Sunrisers Eastern Cape have made winning their tradition.
