Three remarkable South African athletes, Simnikiwe Bosman, Bongani Mahlangu, and Edwin Nelson, are currently living their winter sports dreams at the prestigious Dream Program in South Korea! Despite facing life-altering challenges, including limb loss, these inspiring individuals have shown incredible resilience and determination.
Pyeongchang, South Korea (09 January 2025) – Three promising sportsmen, each with an unshakeable spirit, have been afforded the amazing opportunity to chase their wildest winter sporting dreams at the 2025 Dream Program taking place in South Korea this month.
Jumping Kids charity ambassadors Simnikiwe Bosman, Bongani Mahlangu, and Edwin Nelson have jetted off to the other side of the world to get a taste of the ice sports action. There, 120 young athletes from 27 countries will immerse themselves in the epic event.
The Dream Program, which runs from 6-19 January, aims to offer a winter sports experience to promising young athletes from countries that offer limited opportunities in winter sports codes such as skiing, skating, and snowboarding.
Participants will receive training at the Winter Sports Academy in Pyeongchang, engage in special lectures on Olympic and Paralympic values, and enjoy a variety of winter sports activities.
What makes this program truly special is its inclusive nature, welcoming both abled and differently-abled athletes to participate. This unique global platform provides invaluable experiences that will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on these young individuals, particularly our inspiring South African representatives: Edwin, Simnikiwe and Bongani.
Despite tragically losing his feet in a car accident in 2023, Edward has continuously demonstrated remarkable relicense and determination. Fitted with prosthetic limbs, he continues to pursue his passion for sports.
Simnikiwe, who lost his leg following a serious rugby injury in 2021, has demonstrated unwavering strength and courage.
Bongani, who lost his leg in a tragic accident at the age of 13, has overcome adversity through sport. A beneficiary of the Jumping Kids charity since 2010, Bongani has excelled in Para-athletics, representing Gauteng Province.
Not only are we moved and inspired by their stories of overcoming, but we are thrilled about their exciting international ice journey!
Jumping Kids wishes the inspiring trio all the best and a wonderful experience!
