All it takes is a moment of thoughtfulness to look out for a stranger and make their day.
Western Cape, South Africa (08 May 2026) – This is another small but meaningful story about a stranger who chose to do the right thing. Because one good thing always has the power to inspire another – and sometimes, a moment of thoughtfulness is all it asks for.
It started when a young learner and rugby player was travelling with his Reddam team from George back to Cape Town. In the excitement that comes along with touring, he left his kit behind.
“Yesterday, my son was travelling back to Cape Town from George with his rugby tour team when he accidentally left his bag behind at the Wimpy stop in Heidelberg,” shared Nerine Nikki Kruger on Facebook group The Village.
It was a blow. The bag was custom-made, and his tour jacket, which he had just earned, was inside. Both were irreplaceable.
Many of our stories highlight the heroes, the everyday ones. This time, it was a stranger who had stopped at the same Wimpy, found the bag, and chose to do the right thing.
“This incredible lady found the bag, handed it over to a coach from Reddam House Durbanville (whose bus stopped there shortly after), and took the time to leave a message with the Wimpy staff explaining what she had done.”
A moment of kindness and quick thinking was all it took.
“Because of your kindness and quick thinking, we were able to track the bag down and get it back safely. Without you, the bag would have been lost forever.”
Not knowing who this stranger was, Nerine turned to The Village in the hopes of reaching the kind woman to thank her for the selfless act that reunited her son with his irreplaceable belongings.
