Sydney Panel’s latest Facebook Marketplace food hunt takes him to Ora’s Skaftin, where he digs into boerewors, vetkoek, steamed bread and more.
Blacktown, Australia (19 August 2026) – When selling South African food online started with missing home.
For Sinalo, the idea eventually became Ora’s Skaftin, a weekend food venture in Blacktown, Australia, serving up a taste of South African street food for customers looking for familiar flavours or, in some cases, discovering them for the very first time.
The business recently featured in the sixth episode of Sydney Panel’s Facebook Marketplace food series, where he tracks down food businesses advertised on the platform and gives them a try.
For this episode, the destination was Ora’s Skaftin, which operates on Saturdays and Sundays for collection.
Speaking to Sydney Panel, Sinalo explained that the inspiration behind the business came from a love of South African food and a desire to share it with friends in Australia.
“You miss home and the best thing about South Africa is food,” he explained. “I was like, let me share this with my friends. My friends are loving it, and I was like, why not?”
The menu offered Sydney Panel his first taste of South African cuisine, with a spread that included steamed bread, chicken wings, lamb, boerewors, carrots and a vetkoek-style fried bread.
And judging by his reaction, the food made quite an impression.
The steamed bread immediately caught his attention. The chicken was packed with flavour, while the lamb came with a seasoned exterior that suited his love of salt.
But perhaps the biggest takeaway was the introduction to flavours he had never experienced before.
“The African spices are like something I’ve never really tried before.”
The episode forms part of his ongoing Facebook Marketplace series, where he continues searching for interesting food finds and giving viewers a taste of what is being cooked up in local communities.
