Theys had to give up his teaching dream because of funding, but now, many years later, he works for an organisation that helps children stay in school.
Paarl, South Africa (29 January 2020) – Theys grew up in a tiny, rural community under difficult circumstances. Despite this, he always had a love for people and was committed to uplift others in every way possible.
Years later, he came across Khula Development Group and humbly became their driver. Every day, Theys diligently chaperoned social workers into communities, where they promoted school attendance in different ways.
He was deeply moved by the negligence he saw in homes, and decided to get involved even more. Today, at the age of 66, he has just been promoted to be the Pastoral Carer at Khula, impacting many lives with his wisdom and support.
Theys dreamed of being a teacher when he was young, he had even enrolled in studies but had to drop out before he qualified due to financial constraints. He is grateful that his path led him to helping children stay true to their educations; now, he does more than he ever dreamed possible.
Through the Khula Development Group, Theys is able to change lives. Khula started in 2003 as a community-based organisation integrating children at risk of dropping out, back into the school system.
